Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd. (ASHVINI) has moved ahead with a Nuclear Island EPC package worth more than ₹28,000 crore for the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP).
The package covers four indigenous 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). Together, these reactors will add 2,800 MWe of nuclear power capacity.
The project is one of the largest opportunities currently available in India’s nuclear sector. Therefore, it is expected to attract interest from engineering companies, equipment manufacturers, technology providers, EPC contractors and supply chain partners.
The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and installation activities related to the nuclear island of all four reactors.
ASHVINI is a 51:49 joint venture between NPCIL and NTPC. The company has been authorised by the Government of India to build, own and operate nuclear power plants. It is currently implementing the MBRAPP project in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, India is accelerating its nuclear expansion plans to meet rising electricity demand. At the same time, the country is focusing on clean energy and long-term energy security.
As a result, industry experts see the MBRAPP project as a major opportunity for both Indian and international companies. The project is expected to create new business opportunities across manufacturing, engineering and nuclear supply chains.
Furthermore, India has set a target of achieving 100 GWe of nuclear power capacity by 2047. To support this goal, significant investments are expected in reactor construction, equipment manufacturing, engineering services and workforce development.
Consequently, projects such as MBRAPP will play an important role in strengthening India’s nuclear ecosystem. They will also help expand industry participation and support the country’s long-term nuclear growth plans.
