Jharkhand, 7 October 2026: The Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) has inaugurated its Diamond Jubilee Celebration Year, marking six decades of India’s indigenous capability in uranium mining and processing.

The inaugural function was held at Bhabha Auditorium, Narwapahar, Jharkhand, bringing together senior officials from the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Atomic Energy Commission and UCIL.

The ceremony was graced by Seema Jain, Member-Finance, Atomic Energy Commission, along with Dr Anand K. Rao, CMD, UCIL; Nidhi Pandey, Additional Secretary, DAE; Anjali Sinha, Joint Secretary (Industries & Minerals); and Sandeep Raj, Joint Secretary & Financial Advisor. Senior UCIL officials, including the company’s Director (Technical) and Director (Finance), were also present.

Six decades of uranium capability

During the ceremony, Dr Rao presented UCIL’s six-decade journey and outlined the organisation’s roadmap for the years ahead, with a focus on strengthening its contribution to India’s nuclear programme and the broader national development vision towards Viksit Bharat 2047.

The milestone celebration highlights UCIL’s role in developing indigenous capabilities in uranium mining and processing, an important part of the front end of India’s nuclear fuel cycle. The programme also featured the launch of science communication films and the UCIL Diamond Jubilee visual identity, marking the beginning of the year-long celebrations.

The Diamond Jubilee year provides an opportunity to look back at UCIL’s evolution over six decades while highlighting the organisation’s future priorities as India prepares for a significant expansion of its nuclear energy programme.

With uranium resources forming the foundation of the nuclear fuel cycle, the continued development of domestic mining and processing capabilities will remain an important element of India’s long-term nuclear ambitions. Inauguration at Narwapahar thus marked both a celebration of UCIL’s institutional journey and the beginning of a new phase focused on its future contribution to India’s nuclear energy growth.
